Department of Parasitology

(About Department)

ERU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine started education in 1995. Prof. Dr. Abdullah İNCİ, transferred to the ERU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Department of Parasitology from Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1997, undertook the foundation of the Department of Parasitology and was appointed as the first head of the parasitology department. Professor İNCİ, who maintained his position as the head of the department until 2017, was appointed as the Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine after that date. Prof. Dr. Alparslan YILDIRIM (Head of the Department & Director of ERU Vectors and Vectors Borne Diseases Application and Research Center), Assoc. Prof. Önder DÜZLÜ (Deputy Director of the Graduate School of Health Sciences, ERU), Asst. Prof. Zuhal ÖNDER, Asst. Prof. Arif ÇİLOĞLU and Res. Asst. Gamze YETİŞMİŞ are actively working at the department. In addition to the undergraduate education in our department, educational activities are carried out in the Master’s and PhD degree programs within the Graduate School of Health Sciences. Our department has been carrying out advanced researches in the laboratories of our department with routine laboratory services and project opportunities provided from domestic and foreign countries.

Our vision

  • to produce universal knowledge and projects to solve problems on parasitic diseases in Türkiye by using advanced technology,
  • to bring the current advanced technological infrastructure to the highest level with the projects that will further develop it,
  • to develop educational activities for the transfer of knowledge at the highest level to the undergraduate students and especially to the graduate students,
  • to accelerate the academic development of especially young researchers by carrying out activities to increase international and national collaborations, producing common scientific projects and increasing information sharing by means of the exchange of researchers,
  • to increase the participation in scientific congresses, conferences, symposiums and workshops at international and national levels and to create information sharing platforms,
  • to conduct researches with advanced molecular biological techniques in the diagnosis of important parasites for animal and public health, combating and controlling parasitic diseases and offering solutions,
  • to offer inputs that will be obtained by conducting vaccine development studies against parasites for the benefit of the society by evaluating them in a commercial sense.

Our mission is:

  • to create research laboratories on a universal scale that have advanced technological infrastructure and are equipped with modern devices,
  • to investigate the diseases caused by parasites on a scientific basis with the existing technological infrastructure,
  • to develop specific multidisciplinary projects for the detection and solution of problems related to these diseases,
  • to establish and develop national and international collaborations,
  • to share and discuss the research findings and project outcomes on a universal scale,
  • to contribute to the training of universal, highly competitive, qualified scientists,
  • to produce information and services for public and animal health by handling the problems of Türkiye in this area on a scientific basis.
