(About Department)

History

Erciyes University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine started education in 1995. The Department of Microbiology was founded in 1995 by Prof. Dr. Nejat AYDIN, who was the first and founding dean of the faculty. In 2001 and later, three teaching staff members were appointed to the Department. Among them, Prof. Dr. Fuat AYDIN is currently the Head of the Department. There are 2 professors (Prof. Dr. Fuat AYDIN, Prof. Dr. Kadir Semih GÜMÜŞSOY), 1 associate professor (Assoc. Prof. Seçil ABAY) and 1 research assistant (Res. Asst. Emre KARAKAYA), who are working in Department. Both undergraduate education at the Department of Microbiology and graduate education within the Graduate School of Health Sciences are provided. Routine laboratory services are provided at the laboratory of the department, and scientific studies are carried out.

Mission and Vision

Veterinary Microbiology is a discipline that has an important place in veterinary medicine and public health (especially zoonosis bacterial diseases), and in microbiological diagnosis of animal diseases and in offering appropriate antibacterial treatment options. The department aims to train qualified veterinarians, to provide training for the students within the scope of undergraduate and graduate programs, to offer Microbiology Laboratory services to the ERU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Training and Research Hospital, to carry out routine analyzes (bacteriological, serological and mycological analyzes) and to conduct new and quite important scientific projects and studies.
