ERCIYES UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF VETERINARY IN 25 ANNIVERSARY
TH
INTRODUCTION
Erciyes University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Abdullah İnci’s 25th Anniversary Message
University, meaning “universitas magistrorum et scholarium” or “community of students and teachers”, is a higher
education institution where education is given at the highest level, research is conducted, and knowledge is pro-
duced. Some of the most basic characteristics of universities are universality, autonomy, transparency and account-
ability. Universities in Turkey have reached a new development period following the establishment of the modern
Turkish Republic. The Founder of the Modern Turkish Republic, Great Leader ATATURK, initiated the “Univer-
sity Reform” in 1933 as a complement to the Republican Revolutions and clearly demonstrated the importance of
universities for the modernization of our country. Currently, more than two hundred universities operating all over
the country are a great indicator of development for Modern Turkey.
Turkey joined the Bologna Process in 2001, which was initiated in 1999 to ensure integration with European High-
er Education. The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) continues its activities in The Europe Higher Education
Area (EHEA), of which 49 countries are affiliated. YÖK carries out its higher education activities mainly in ac-
cordance with The Overarching Framework for Qualifications of EHEA (QF-EHEA) and National Qualifications
Framework (Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework, TYYÇ).
In parallel with Turkey’s development plans and strategic goals, expectations for universities have naturally increased
in this new development period. These expectations include the following: i) lead the development of modern tech-
nology in the country, ii) produce advanced knowledge, iii) train manpower who have advanced professional skills,
can develop alternative solutions to problems and are ready for international competition, iv) take part in produc-
tion, and v) pioneer responsibilities by contributing to innovation, productivity, research and development studies,
and producing advanced solutions to the social and economic problems of the country. As a matter of fact, our
President of YÖK, Prof. Dr. Erol OZVAR, in the acceptance of the Executive Committee Members of the Deans
Council of Veterinary Faculties on January 10, 2022 in Ankara, emphasized the roles of universities and described
the integration with the slogan “Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on the Field”.
With its new perspective, YÖK has given special importance to international cooperation and has set interna-
tionalization as a target. The Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) bases its internationalization on the
accreditation document obtained at the end of the relevant accreditation processes as proof of reaching interna-
tional standards. The international accreditation organizations recognized by YÖKAK, and National accreditation
agencies authorized by YÖKAK, are included in the relevant lists of YÖKAK. Established in Vienna in 1988 for
the international accreditation of Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, the European Association of Veterinary Educa-
tion Institutions (EAEVE) is on the YÖKAK list. In addition, the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of
