duce graduates who have gained field skills and are competent, intellectual and prestigious. Our goal is to improve
our student profile every year and to move it to higher levels. We are working with dedication and determination
towards this goal.
Our faculty is getting stronger day by day in terms of both academic and administrative staff. Currently, our aca-
demic staff consists of nearly 100 well-trained individuals (38 professors, 16 associate professors, 11 Dr. Lecturers,
2 Teaching Assistants, 17 Research Assistants and 15 YÖK 100/2000 Doctorates). In addition, there are 47 expe-
rienced administrative and technical personnel in the faculty. This dynamic staff performs its services meticulously
to achieve perfection.
Our faculty, which has left many development periods behind in the quarter-century since its establishment, has
succeeded in receiving the “Unobstructed Campus Certificate” in accordance with the Barrier-Free Campus Con-
cept of YÖK. Currently the faculty has an “Orange Flag” given by YÖK, which is the symbol of this concept. This
is first success for faculties of veterinary medicine in Turkey. With the support of both Erciyes University and the
people of Kayseri, especially the donors, our faculty has succeeded in acquiring many kinds of laboratory infrastruc-
ture and animal hospital equipment required for the most advanced education.
ERU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has worked tirelessly on many national (TUBITAK, DPT, ERU BAP, Kay-
seri Governorship) and international projects (TUBITAK Bilateral Projects, ERU BAP International Project, EU
6th Framework, DTRA). Partnerships have been made with many domestic and international universities in the
projects. With financial support provided by national and international funds, the research opportunities of our
faculty are being improved day by day. Since the establishment of our faculty, 528 projects have been completed
in the years 1995-2021, and 91 projects are still ongoing. A fund of 30,685,336,68 TL = 8,404,049,93 USD was
created from a total of 619 projects.
Currently, some departments of our Faculty (for example, Parasitology) can receive joint project proposals from
national/international research groups with their advanced technological infrastructure. As a result of the advanced
multidisciplinary studies carried out within the scope of these projects, several publications in Q1, Q2 and Q3
journals have been produced. In addition, our faculty has hosted more than 100 national and international sci-
entific meetings (congresses, conferences, trainings, meetings, etc.) since its establishment, thus contributing to
information sharing in both national and international platforms in accordance with its mission and vision. In
this way, strong project partnerships and permanent collaborations have been established with many national and
international universities and research centers. Academic members of our faculty have received 7 patents or utility
models so far. Erciyes University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Implementation and Research Center (Small
Animal Hospital), built by the donor Necati KURMEL and put into service in 2015, has been serving on a 24/7
basis since the day it opened. The construction of some units such as imaging, operation holes and necropsy of our
Large Animal Hospital also started in November 2021. Our animal hospital, which has a modern Integrated and
Full Automation System, provides services as a regional hospital.
Our hospital complies with the principle of “prevention is better than cure”, as pointed out by the European Com-
mission in the Animal Health Law (The animal health law is also a key output of the Animal Health Strategy 2007-
2013). Within this framework, on the basis of “herd health” and with the principle of respecting nature, control
and treatment of infectious diseases, especially zoonotic diseases, are conducted. In our hospital, which is included
in the ISO 9001 Quality process, “animal welfare controls” and “patient-specific diet” practices have been provided
within the scope of “good veterinary practices” accepted by the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe and biosafety
principles in accordance with EAEVE standards. The number of patients in a very wide patient profile has increased
logarithmically over the years, reaching the band of 30,000 by the end of 2021. As a result of the successful treat-
ments made in accordance with the strategies developed especially for the prevention of calf losses, very important
contributions are made to the regional economy every year.
