The leading indicators of this claim have also begun to emerge. As a matter of fact, Erciyes University achieved
to be among the World’s top 100 Universities and to be included in the top 3 universities in Turkey according to
the 2021 Greenmetric World University Rankings, which aims to create Environmental Awareness. Thus, the
university managed to draw attention to the topics on sustainability and to create environmental awareness with a
holistic approach, and enabled to create global awareness especially with a holistic principle of “Healthy Environ-
ment with Self-Renewing Ecosystems, Healthy Animals, Healthy-Safe Food, Healthy and Happy Humans”,
developed by the World Health Organization in accordance with the “One Health” approach, and contributed to
the transformation of this approach into cultural achievements.

Erciyes University has provided very important developments in the field of UniversityIndustry Cooperation. With
the principle of “University not only on Campus, but also on Site”, we always fulfill our leading responsibility
in carrying out important projects together with non-governmental organizations, industry, commerce and pro-
fessional chambers in our city. The best example of this is our program, “100 Demands, 100 Projects”, which
we started to bring together our industrialists and academicians. Moreover, as of today, 14 companies continue
their work in the field of Defense Industry at Erciyes Technopark, which is among the leading Technoparks in our
country that continues its activities within our university, and these companies produce products and provide ser-
vices in many fields, especially the fuel systems of our national aircraft. According to the results of the Technology
Development Zones Performance Index of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Erciyes Technopark ranked

7 among the 89 Technology Development Zones in the 2020 overall ranking. Our university carries out activities
in almost every field needed, from nanotechnology to genetics and stem cell, from drug research to vaccine, from
agricultural researches to energy conversion.

Our Faculty members represent our University in both national and international platforms with their scientific
project studies and scientific publications. They receive high-budget projects from foreign and domestic funds
thanks to the strong collaborations they establish and the Scientific Research Teams they form and win awards.
While 30 faculty members from Erciyes University achieved to be included in the list of “2020 Most Influential
Scientists”, some of our faculty members were considered worthy of TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological
Research Council of Turkey) and TUBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences) science awards.

Based on the principle of producing and disseminating knowledge, the most basic tasks of universities, a vaccine
against Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, a zoonotic disease, which emerged in Turkey in 2002 and caused the
death of people, was developed at the Vaccine Research, Development and Application Center of our university
under the leadership of
Veterinarian Virologist Prof. Dr. Aykut ÖZDARENDELİ, a faculty member at the Department of Microbiology,
Faculty of Medicine. The same working team has started the Vaccine Research and Development (R&D) studies
against Covid-19 at the Vaccine Research, Development and Application Center in parallel with the vaccine devel-
opment studies in different regions of the world since the initial period following the declaration of the Covid-19
Pandemic in the world. As a result of successful laboratory and phase studies, the Domestic Vaccine, developed
against Covid-19 by Erciyes University, was named “TURKOVAC” by our President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN.
Our President has also declared that people in need all over the world will have easy access to this vaccine.

TURKOVAC, our domestic vaccine, developed against Covid-19 by Erciyes University, which continues to con-
duct qualified researches as well as quality education and training activities, has been a source of pride for us. Erciyes
University Vaccine Research, Development and Application Center has been the first Center in the history of the
Republic of Turkey to complete the vaccine studies successfully till the end of the Phase-2 at the same university
starting from the preclinical study.
