TURKOVAC Project Leader Prof. Dr. Aykut ÖZDARENDELİ and TURKOVAC Project Team were awarded
with a medal by Hulusi AKAR, our Minister of National Defense, at the TURKOVAC Vaccine Award Ceremony,
held at Erciyes Culture Center on 18.11.2021. In addition, Erciyes University was considered worthy of the “Com-
munity Service Award” by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) within the scope of “Excellence Awards”
due to its outstanding studies in the development processes of our Domestic Vaccine, TURKOVAC, the Phase-3
studies of which are ongoing, and the award was presented to our university by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at
the Opening Ceremony of the 2021/2022 Higher Education Academic Year.
Our University which has created its own brand has naturally achieved this Institutional Development together
with all its units. One of these units is the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,
which was opened within Erciyes University about a quarter century ago, spent nearly 17 years in deprived condi-
tions outside the Central Campus of our University. The faculty could move to the Education Building, which was
built on the Central Campus with the donations of TES-İŞ Union, only in 2012. Research and Application Center
of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Small Animal Hospital), which was built with the donations of the benefac-
tor Necati KURMEL, was put into service in 2015; on the other hand, the construction of large animal hospital,
Imaging Center and Necropsy (Veterinary Forensic Medicine) Units could be started in November 2021. Over the
past 25 years, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has progressed rapidly. Despite being in deprived conditions for
many years, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which has reached a very high rate of development in the Central
Campus, has become very successful in education, in creating an advanced research-development infrastructure, in
project studies and in providing service in the field. Our Faculty provides a great economic contribution to Kayseri
Region with this high rate of development by significantly providing animal health service, including herd health.
As Erciyes University Management, we know that the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which we considerably sup-
port, carries out successful studies in every field it is responsible for, and we witness with great pleasure that it adds
new ones to these successful studies day by day.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has achieved to make its successful studies measurable with national and inter-
national standards of education and has been included in both national and international accreditation processes.
We gladly follow that our Faculty maintains these accreditation processes in a great discipline, by working as a team
and with great care. Consequently, the Faculty has received both national (VEDEK) and international (EAEVE)
accreditations. I fully believe that our Faculty, which has achieved to be among the best veterinary faculties in Eu-
rope with the EAEVE accreditation, will also achieve this success in the future. Furthermore, I sincerely believe that
there are strong reasons for the students who want to become a veterinarian to prefer both our University and our
Faculty. I am of the opinion that the Professional Acquisitions of our graduates are quite strong and competitive
based on the advanced education and training they have at international standards.
I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the development of ERU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
since its establishment.
Best regards,
Prof. Dr. Fatih ALTUN
Rector of Erciyes University
