MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDING DEAN

While I was a faculty member at Ankara University
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Division of
Preclinical Sciences, Department of Microbiology,
I was appointed by Council of Higher Education
(CoHE ) as the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Vet-
erinary Medicine at Erciyes University in 1995 and
served as the Dean for two terms. I came to Kayseri
with my wife, lecturer Dr. Nedret AYDIN, and started
to the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Med-
icine and accepted our first 30 students in the academ-
ic year of 1995-1996. As the Dean’s Office, we tried
to serve under difficult conditions together with our
Faculty Board in the temporary buildings and offices
that the Rectorate deemed appropriate. Our students
continued their education in temporary classrooms in
their first year. As of the following 1996-1997 academ-
ic year, we moved to the building, which was used as a
School of teachers,

Academy of Architecture and Engineering and Faculty
of Engineering in the past, in the city center of Kocasinan, which was partially renovated and allocated to the Fac-
ulty of Veterinary Medicine. In this campus, we tried to continue our education with our academic and adminis-
trative staff. Despite all kinds of impossibilities outside of the Main Campus of the University, we tried to continue
our education in a kind of high school environment, and we bid farewell to our first graduates as “Veterinarians of
Millennium” in 2000. On the other hand, we took the utmost care to ensure the integration of our faculty to the
both the University and Kayseri region. We have observed with satisfaction that this integration, which has been
achieved to a great extent from the very first day, has further developed over time and has allowed many mutual
gains on a sectoral basis. During my appointment as the Dean of the Faculty, I have shown maximum effort and
care to recruit administrative and academic personnel, whom I believe will make a positive contribution to the
speed of development of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Erciyes University.
In parallel with the institutional development of Erciyes University, the level of development and modern man-
agement of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is very promising for the future. As a matter of fact, the FULL
ACCREDITATION of our Veterinary Faculty to The European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Ed-
ucation (EAEVE) has been a proof of this. In this context, I fully believe that the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,
which acts in accordance with both national and international accreditation processes, will always continue its
development in the future. With this belief, I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone who has con-
tributed to the development of the faculty since its establishment.
