Department of Virology started education and training in 1996 with the power of attorney of Nejat AYDIN.
Research and routine analysis activities have been carried out in the department since 2003. Assoc. Prof.Dr Ayşe
GENÇAY GÖKSU, Dr. Lecturer İbrahim SÖZDUTMAZ and Research Assistant Büşra KAPLAN are working
in the depatment.
Virology I and Virology II courses are given in Undergraduate Education. It also contributes to the multidisciplinary
Occupational Health and Safety courses. In the department, there is a Virology Master’s Program affiliated to Erciyes
University Health Sciences Institute, and also Veterinary Microbiology Master’s and Doctorate program and YÖK
100/2000 priority field doctorate program (Immunology of Infectious Diseases) are carried out. Within the scope of
the programs supported by the Department, 2 graduate students completed their education until 2021.
In the Department of Virology; Research and development on molecular and serological diagnosis of animal viral
diseases, cell culture, virus isolation, identification and characterization, pathogenesis and measurement of immune
responses, as well as development of inactive and recombinant vaccines, production of monoclonal antibodies
against virus proteins, antiviral effectiveness, application and development of new technologies are carried out.
In the Laboratory of the Department of Virology, there are basic equipment to carry out these researches. (PCR
Thermal cyler and related equipment, ELISA reader, BSL1 and BSL2 cabinets, Invert microscope, Fluorescent
microscope, -20 and -80 deep freezers, Multi gas and CO2 ovens, Mini and desktop centrifuges , Western Blot set,
Autoclave).
Until 2021, 29 SCI publications, 3 BAP and 4 TÜBİTAK and non-BAP projects have been completed in the De-
partment.
