The Internal Medicine Department started to conduct its educational activities and clinical services in the building allocated for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Kayseri Sumer District on 06.11.1996.

Yücel ÇAM was appointed to the department as a Research Assistant in 1996 and Öznur ATALAY in 1998. During the establishment stage, Prof. Dr. Bilal Cem LİMAN, a faculty member at the Department of Pharmacology, was assigned as the Deputy Head of the Department between 06.11.1996 and 15.05.2001. Asst. Prof. Yücel ÇAM was assigned as the Head of the Department between 15.05. 2001and 02.02. 2006.

Courses of the Department were taught by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz İMREN, from Ankara University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, between 1997 and 1998. In 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 academic years, the courses were taught by Prof. Dr. Veysi ASLAN, Prof. Dr. Kürşat TURGUT, Prof. Dr. Abdullah BAŞOĞLU, Prof Dr. Mahmut OK, Prof. Dr. Mehmet MADEN ve Prof. Dr. Mutlu SEVİNÇ, faculty members from the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine/Selcuk University. Since 2000-2001, current academic staff of our Department has been teaching.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vehbi GÜNEŞ was appointed to our faculty on 02.02.2006 and became the Head of the Department Faculty and received the title of Professor on 17.03.2011.

Assoc. Prof. Yücel ÇAM died on 27.12.2008 as a result of heart attack. Asst. Prof. Hasan ALBASAN transferred to Ankara University on 09.02.2011. Res. Asst. Mehmet ULUSAN left his public service on 29.10.2016. Res. Asst. Dr. Kemal VAROL transferred to Burdur Food, Agriculture and Livestock Vocational School/Mehmet Akif Ersoy University on 22.02.2017. Assistant Prof. Dr. Öznur ASLAN received the title of Associate Professor on 28.09.2011 and Professor title on 10.02.2017. Asst. Prof. Ali Cesur ONMAZ received the title of Associate Professor on 10.11.2013.

Currently, there are 7 academic staff members in total in our department including 4 professors, 1 associate professor, 1 research assistant and 1 lecturer. Undergraduate and Graduate educational activities are carried out in our Department. Our department has been carrying out its educational, research and clinical activities since 2012 in the new building and clinic allocated on Talas campus.

Vision

• to raise its clinical conditions to the level of EAEVE criteria with its quality and level of education, 
• to increase the quality of life with the treatment of sick animals,
• to conduct activities of protection, informing and fight against all zoonotic diseases within the scope of veterinary public health and to follow scientific and social developments related to the subject,
• to carry out new researches for the diagnosis and treatment,
• to contribute to the animal owners and university cooperation with all breeders, stakeholder organizations and institutions that are active in animal husbandry and health.
  

Mission

The mission of the Internal Medicine Department is grouped under three main topics: education, research and clinical services. The educational mission is to train the students regarding the subjects of protection of animals from diseases, the diagnosis and treatment. In addition to carrying out current scientific researches specific to the field, we also deal with health problems of all kinds of farm (Sheep, Goats, Cattles), domestic (Dogs, Cats, Exotic animals) animals and animals kept for business and hobby purposes (Horses, etc.), examine them, and deal with the diagnosis, treatment and protection against the diseases of these animals.
